Is Travel to Zambia Safe? Your Safari, Our Priority
We understand that safety is a key concern for any international travel. We are pleased to assure you that Zambia is a safe and welcoming destination for tourists.
- Expert Guides: On safari, you’ll be looked after by some of Africa’s most highly trained and knowledgeable guides. They are masters of their craft, ensuring your safety while sharing deep insights into the local wildlife and landscape during game drives, world-renowned walking safaris, and even thrilling canoeing safaris along the Zambezi River.
- Peaceful Environment: Zambia is a stable and friendly nation. Tourist-related incidents are extremely rare, and visitors generally feel very secure.
- Sky Safaris Advantage: Our focus on private and charter flights not only provides breathtaking aerial views but also significantly enhances safety and convenience by minimizing overland travel on potentially challenging roads, allowing you to reach remote, pristine areas with ease.
Getting There & Getting Around
- Main Airports:
- Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN): Located near the capital, Lusaka.
- Livingstone Airport (LVI): Your gateway to Victoria Falls, conveniently located near Livingstone town.
- Seamless Transfers with Sky Safaris: From your arrival at LUN or LVI, your local tour operator will arrange all necessary pick-ups and organize further transportation, including our specialized charter flights, as part of your seamless safari package. This ensures swift, comfortable, and scenic travel between reserves, optimizing your time in the bush.
Passport, Visa & Entry Requirements
- Always Verify: Entry requirements can change, so it is essential to contact your local Zambian Embassy or consulate well in advance of your travel date to verify the latest information.
- Passport: A passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date, with at least three empty pages, is required for all foreign visitors.
- Visas: Citizens of most countries can either obtain a visa upon arrival or do not require one. Please consult Zambia’s Department of Immigration or your embassy for a definitive list specific to your nationality.
- Yellow Fever: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission.
Currency
- Zambian Kwacha (ZMW): This is the local currency. Credit cards are generally accepted in major hotels and safari camps, but carrying some local currency for smaller purchases or tips is advisable, especially in more remote areas.
Weather & Climate: Timing Your Adventure
Dry Season (May to October): This is generally considered the best time to visit. Rainfall is minimal, and animals congregate around dwindling water sources, making wildlife viewing excellent. Temperatures are warm, building to hot towards October. From June, mornings can be quite chilly, so pack warm layers for early game drives. Road access is excellent during this period.
Wet Season (November to April): Characterized by heavy rainfall and high humidity. While some parks, like South Luangwa, remain open and offer fantastic birdwatching and lush landscapes (known as the "Emerald Season"), many roads can become impassable, and some camps may close.
Beyond the Ordinary: What to Expect
While Zambia excels in delivering an authentic safari experience, it's important to know that the primary focus is on wildlife and nature. If you're seeking extensive urban attractions or diverse non-safari activities, your journey will primarily revolve around the unparalleled bush and river experiences. This focus ensures a truly immersive and intimate connection with the wild.
